For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. — Psalm 61:3
Have you ever needed a shelter? Been out walking or having fun with friends and it starts raining or pouring. What’s the first thing we do? Look for a shelter from that rain. That’s what God was to David – a shelter that he could run to. Any storms in your life lately? Are you running to Jesus or away from Him?
The next part of the verse says God was David’s strong tower from the enemy. The meaning of strong tower in Biblical times meant a central place in ancient cities where people could run to when facing danger and then find safety and protection. When we run to God in difficult situations we find safety. The trial may not lessen immediately, but we have the strength of the Lord to help us through.
Find the song: ‘A Shelter in the Time of Storm’ and listen to it this week. It is uplifting.
